Sounds like and adventure that I'm glad I didn't participate in. That happened to my Dad once. He launched the boat and pulled it up on the bank. He then went park his truck only to find upon his return that his boat had floated across the canal. This was in the fall and the water was quite cold. Since there was no one around, he strip t his shorts and took the plunge. After retrieving his boat, he dressed and off he went shrimping. I don't remember if he caught any shrimp or not.
You mentioned the horsehead jigs by Satdoc. I got some from him with #2 hooks. They are awesome in catching and holding. No baby hooks on those.

Well at least you caught some after your morning swim. I too launch by myself 99% of the time, I use a rope too but it is tied at both ends, boat and trailer, I don't trust hooks and now you know why! I do always check to make sure the knots are good before launching though.
