Thread: surprise- still biting in lake talquin

Nice. I like going to Talquin just don't know a lot about it. The mouth of Harvey mill is about all I know. I go about once every 2-3 weeks

The way i understand it , u need to know how to navigate the stumps,so when i go i think ill follow someone that knows their way around andlay down a trail with my lowrance.

That's part of the Talquin Experience--The Stumps!

navigating the stumps is mostly visual. your sonar won't help much. lake map won't help much. learning from lake veterans is helpful. the most concentrated stumps are in the ochlockonee river and then west up to about wiliams landing. it just takes time to find routes you can trust. i had a neighbor, and another boater, hit stumps hard in just the last month. both were just below the water and unseen.both had boat damage. there are floaters in the lake after a big rain, mostly in the eastern 1/3 of the lake. the stumps i have hit have been with my trolling motor while crappie fishing in water 4 feet of less. always losing jigs when trolling. lite wire hook jigs are a must.

Been fishing the lake now for almost 20 years. I've attempted to mark every stump in the lake on my depth finder and have many trails to use to navigate around the lake. Really helps on those early morning fogs. However, there's always that "ONE" stump that is out there. Don;t even get me started about those bass boats that run 70MPH on those foggy mornings!

yes. just found a stump on my "safe'' route going toward freeman creek after passing blount creek. hasn't been very windy lately nor a lot of flow through the dam. so how? who knows? that's talquin. bass tournament fisherman. used to be one. now hate them.. many inconsiderate. has one pass in front of 20feet while i has the right of way back in april. they speed around corners (points) blind.
