Default Green River event give-away trip

Chad (Red190) was the lucky winner of the KY Lake crappie trip I gave away at the recent Green River event. He had some bad luck coming down and the fish didn't sound very cooperative on Barkley for the 2 days prior to our trip. We got together on Monday at Sportsman's Marina on Jonathan Creek. Right off the bat we were dealing with a stiff east wind.

I decided to get off the west side and try to lessen the wind effects after a while on a ledge that was red hot on Sunday produced zero.

We found some decent fish but not in the numbers I hoped for. Chad, his Dad, and brother-in-law were great to fish with and were sponges for information on how and why I did certain things different than they might have done them.

It was great to fish with you guys and hope you gained a small helping of ideas that can help you in your part of the state.

The linecounter reels are heavier than most crappie reels we use. I can't always depend on clients to put the rod handles up to the trigger in the HiTek holders so I took pieces of SOLID pool noodle, split then 1/2 way thru and zip tied them on my rods. Haven't lost one yet. Can't say I'm crazy about the looks but they work and are a constant reminder to put the rod in the holder properly. The factory ones are very small.

Also probably keeps anybody from wanting to steal them looking like that.

In my mind I was thinking along the lines of something that would keep the treble hooks from snagging.

A lot of good fishing and info shared on this trip. Thanks M-R dux for the trip and lessons learned, just have to apply and see what happens. As most of you know, Doug is top notch all the way. Not just as a guide but as a friend wanting to help another fisherman improve on this craft we call "crappie fishing"!! While in search mode for the fish, Doug helped console me over some vehicle troubles we had on the way down and reminded me it can always be worse. His experience was quite a bit worse. I now know what the "more" in Crappie Gills and More stands for.
O yeah Doug, I just happen to run into an Excel dealer on the web just 40 miles from me. Dang it!! Wife says next guide can just take us on my boat!! Lol
Also big thanks to Slab and crappie.com for green river fling where this trip was won.
