#1 bright orange #2 black #3 yellow. Mostly fish with plain lead-head but days that are tough can be salvaged by a colored jighead. Several times when conditions are less than favorable, painted jigheads beat out plain lead by a large margin. At least that has been my experience.

    LOL

In fact my partner and I caught over 500 crappie today along with as many sunfish, a large perch and a dozen or more bass, rigged on the same soft plastic lures I designed using unpainted 1/32 and 1/16oz ball head jigs I order from Ebay. Some of the crappie were 13" long, most were 11" or better.
Lure color and designed maybe mattered, presentation most definite.

Adding to my original post one of the biggest factors that upped my catch rate was going to jig heads with a number 6 Sickle hook versus what you normally see the very tiny hooks on Panfish jigs.

Unpainted heads for me. Very rarely use color on heads.

I like red hooks but don't go out of my way to use them. I think they help when they are finicky.

I like pink and chart and white and orange and red and use the color I think the water clarity dictates in many spots ....but I also use unpainted a lot as well .....sometimes I even use black as well

I like mine painted and usually Chartreuse, FL Yellow, Flame Red, Bright Green, Silver. However I am not sure the fish care at all really. I feel most of the head color is just us fishermen! Maybe head color can make a difference at times, but I don't think a lot!
