    Default Bucktail jigs w/treble hook

Got someone wanting me to tie them 100 bucktail jigs like the one below. Wondering if anyone else has ever tied them and if so what size hook and type of hair did they use? Thanks

They are just dressed treble hooks meant to go on the back of crankbaits. Use real bucktail. Don't go crazy on the amount of hair or it can mess up the action. You'll have a lot of waste but use the fine tip ends and size the length accordingly. Hook depends on what they're fishing for and size of baits. I use #6, #4, and #2s for all different species including 4X strong for saltwater.

Thanks Smoothlures. I'm assuming he's gonna be going after hybrids and stripers.

Yes just the back end of a bait! However Zell Rowland helped make Pop-R plug a huge name for top water fishing and he would take the pop-r and sand down the sides, paint them again and add hackle feathers to the rear treble hook and was deadly for bass. Lots of plugs have either feathers, hair or synthetic materials used like this.

I actually have 2 numbered POP'Rs made my Zell and have never fished either one, but should even though the cost was a bit crazy, lol!

I did a few for myself and a few friends once. I took a few strands of Crystal flash and ran it through the the eye of the hook and secure it with a few wraps, then add the bucktail to one section at a time, securing with a few turns til it's all in, then tie it for the look you want. It will take a few til you learn the details of them but they aren't hard.

I found a couple of videos and one does it like you said skeetbum. I like the idea of the crystal flash...

Yep they are deadly on topwater baits too. I use feathers myself in freshwater.
