I bought mealworms from Armstrong Cricket Farm: https://www.armstrongcrickets.com/ge...-insects/worms

Never had a problem with them. I got tied of raising mealies, though I loved the little guys. Black soldier flies are my go to now. I take the poop to feed my European nightcrawlers. That something to keep in mind. You could take your mealworm poop and use it for feeding nightcrawlers. Then take the worm poop and fertilize your garden.

I am probably the lucky one in a million but when I handle wax worms I have to be EXTREMELY careful not to touch my eyes because they will swell shut. It is really a problem cause they work so good for so many different types of pan fish.

I'm probably biased when it comes to wax worms, and will probably never use them.I have 4 beehives, and have personally seen the destructive nature of the the wax moth.Wax worms are the larva of the wax moth,if they get in a hive, they will destroy the wax foundation, thus ruining the honey.
While they do not harm the bees directly, they can kill a colony by destroying the life cycle of bee rearing and food reserves that help them endure winter, mealworms, maggots, and mousies for me........

For what it's worth ... I've had much better luck with wax worms (wax moth larvae) than meal worms (darkling beetle larvae).

But for sunfish in the Fall ... you can't beat "Horse Weed Worms" (actually they are stalk borer worms).

Here's a couple of links that show the worm & the weed it feeds on/nests in :

I always seem to catch more bluegill with the pupa of the mealworm than the mealworm itself, I know this for a fact because my Girlfriend will only use the mealworm. The reason being is that she thinks the pupa " looks weird"...sometimes 3or4 to 1... stupid huh ?

They do have a little bit of "Alien" (the movie) look to them ... but, I wouldn't make a big deal out of it. She's willing to use the mealworm, and not a lot of women would even go that far. Heck, I know some men that are squeamish about ANY bugs with multiple legs !!
