Default Lake Wylie Assault on Perch 5/3/2017

Wife and I launched the Warcraft at 6:30. Went to perch point and the graph lit up with Perch just laughing at us. . so we stop the boat and I took the wife's pole and baited up. She dropped it down and before I can reach for mine she was brining up perch. This went on for 10 minutes before I could get one of mine down. So finally got one of mine down and we both catching Perch. I could not get my second pole in the water to busy. Then Bam she was going nuts fighting a fish. She finally got it up and in the boat. She would not hold the fish so I held it and she took the pic.
    Nice Bass over 3 pounds.

We gave a good fight and held on to the onslaught they even had Kamikaze thrown at us and we were catching two at a time. At 6 dozen minnows ran out in 90 minutes. We went to Charles Perch Point and went to cutbait and caught some more there.
5 Gallon bucket about filled up.

Total perch was 64. Action was fast and furious first 90 minutes. Most poles out was my two and Wife's pretty pink and purple pole with pink ribbons painted on it. We headed in at 10:30.

Good job on the perch jerk! Fine mess of filets to be cut out. I see Brett's hot on the trail too! Hope there will be another jerk soon and a few more can join in! LOL

Sounds like fun guys. One suggestion to consider, when we get on them like that we put down the minnow rods and jig a Berry's Flexit Spoon, bouncing it right off the bottom and they will slam the tar out of it. Saves minnows and faster action cause you don't to re-bait each time. Berrys just happens to be what we use, any similar 1/2 oz to 3/4 oz with some flash to it will absolutely slay them. You need a rod with some backbone and a fast tip, but nothing heavy like a worm rod. Just medium action with 6 or 8 lb mono. Try it, I promise you will be hooked for life. It is hard to believe how hard they slam the spoon as opposed to taking live bait.

That is it. We use 1/2 to 3/4 oz ones. Blue flash, white flash and chartreuse have been the best colors for us. but when they are in a feeding frenzy I doubt it matters what color.

You use a treble hook on it or change to single hook? Why not a little Cleo?

I usually leave the treble on, but a couple of times a small one hit it and got all 3 hooks in his mouth. I though I was going to have to cut his head off to get the hook out. A Little Cleo should work. The Berry spoons do have the reflective sides and I think they imitate the scales of a bait fish flashing in the water. Who knows why a fish hits some of the stuff we throw at them??
