Default Structure drops on the Ville

Hey guys, I saw this posted on Facebook, so thought I'd share here. Maybe we can get some guys together to help.

    Lake Shelbyville Fish Habitat Meeting

Lake Shelbyville – On April 25, 2017 at 6:30 p.m. a public meeting will be held at the Lake Shelbyville Visitors Center Auditorium to discuss a proposed fish habitat project through the Friends of Reservoirs. The US Army Corps of Engineers at Lake Shelbyville, the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, Chip’s Marine, and the Lake Volunteer Association are soliciting the help of anglers and angling groups dedicated to protecting and restoring fisheries habitat at Lake Shelbyville. Recently, a new fish attractor called the “Lake Shelbyville Cube” was built and placed into Lake Shelbyville to increase fish habitat as well as catch rates for anglers. With the success of the first two builds and drops (approximately 50 structures placed) and the interest we are receiving from the cube structures we are looking at expanding the program significantly. This will entail getting more people/groups involved to support the project. The goal for this meeting is to strengthen our ability to leverage significant funding that is available through the Reservoir Fisheries Habitat Partnership run by Friends of Reservoirs based out of Norman, Oklahoma. Funding is available on an annual basis, however, the funding is awarded on a competitive basis and based on the merits of the project. The more interest from partners a project has, the better the chances of receiving the funding.

Currently, it is against regulations for anglers to place any type of structure in the lake outside of the sanctioned fish habitat day held annually in March. This potential project is a way to increase the fisheries at Lake Shelbyville by placing approved permanent structure in Lake Shelbyville on a large scale.
For more information on this potential opportunity please contact Natural Resources Specialist Lee Mitchell at (217) 774-3951 ext: 7012, IDNR Fisheries Biologist Mike Mounce at (217) 345-2420 or Bob Kerans at 217-414-0093. Hope to see you there!
