I you were fishing Truman for the first time in May would you hire a guide or just go fish.![]()
Guide!
If you can affoed it do the guide.
but better book fast.
Truman is a pretty easy lake to find fish. But if you don't know the lake it's a death trap. The whole thing is a flooded forest. Truman has outstanding numbers and size, but there is so much structure the trick is finding them. Once you do it usually doesn't take long to load up a boat. Many trips to Truman I have fished for 6 hours and only had a couple fish to show for it, then caught 2 limits in the next hour. If a guide is in the budget then why not. I wouldn't even consider going without gps or someone that knows safe navigation areas. Closer to the dam you wouldn't have much to worry about

If you do go guide, I would call Jeff Faulkenberry at Faulkenberry's Endless Season Guide Service. Dude flat slays the fish day in and day out.
Jeff is a excellat choice.
Richard Bowling is hands down best crappie guide on Truman.
My son called Jeff , he's booked till almost September
