KY Lake: Same Time Last Year
Looking back at my logs for 2016 and previous years, our weather tends to be repeating itself. We had a cold front with frost advisories the same weekend last year.
But, the water levels are a bit off in comparison. Last year at this time KY was at 357.6', which puts us right at a foot of water behind last year as we speak. Boy, that water difference is huge when it comes to spawning cover, protection, and beds being prepared.
From a biologist perspective, what is the outlook with our current situation?

That's interesting, I thought the lakes were low compared to last sprimg this time. I've caught a few crappie shallow by throwing curly tail jigs over here on North Barkley and the redear are making a small presence just before next week's full moon...life's good.

From their point of view, they are exactly correct, whether it be the COE or TVA. They're tasked with keeping people/property safe from flooding, not keeping the lake levels at the opportune level for fish spawns. We shouldn't fault them for doing their job.

Fish will find the habitat they need whether it is convenient to a fisherman or not..... THE FISH DO NOT CARE WHAT IS CONVENIENT!
