    Default Day after Day

As in one day after the other. I hadn't planned on fishing Saturday morning because we all know what the river can be like on a pretty Saturday. A guy I know from work wanted a couple of rods I had, and he had never fished the way I single pole, so i just put the two together. We met at the Seminole side of the River at 0630, I was early, he was late, and we moved off pitching jigs. He was a quick study, being a former Boy Scout helped some, and shortly after the basics 101 conversation, his pole loaded up. Conditions weren't great and I was glad he got to feel it all at least once. Moved around and picked up several more while the traffic slowly built. Seemed to be a slow spot and we headed north a little where he got a few hits on Beetle Spins but we were done. Traffic was a bother and the jet ski's were warming up so off we went. A good trip with a sharp young man that was already improving his accuracy and wanting to do more of this. Have to try for a trolling trip. All totaled we got 10 and pitched em all back right away, 3 were real nice.

No rain in the forecast and the boat all ready to go, she stayed uncovered and locked overnight and about 0530 I pulled out and went to find some lights til the sun came up. Should've had another cuppa and watched some tube. Didn't get the first fish until 0650, big enough to throw back. The ice broken a slow pattern began and I got another thump, this one with authority, and it was on. Hard to move at all, he stayed deep and went left and right, surged against the drag a couple of times real good, I gave a little more pressure. Started coming, gained a little line, a little more and just as I saw color it was over. The Nanofil has no abrasion resistance and it was taken deep, I guess, and parted where the line had rubbed against teeth. A great fish lost by my own impatience. I should have taken the time to tie on a new leader after breaking off yesterday late in the trip. Stripped 5' of line and a jig from another rod and tied it together and went back to it. Most of today's fish were throwbacks but half got the invitation with one over a pound. Eddy showed up and we fished around each other again today, talking and catching one here and another there. Best equipped guy I've ever met that wasn't on CDC. Yet. He said that he got a bunch yesterday, most all big fish. About 1030 the bite slowed and then dried up entirely for me, so it was trailer time. 22 on the clicker and half of those in the box. Gathering some for a family fish fry at the daughters house. Threw some back that would have helped on the last two trips but hey, we all need a break now and then. It was their day. On the trailer about 1120 with the heat up pretty good and the traffic in the parking lot at capacity, I was glad to be headed home. Cleaned fish, all put away and ready for next time, I believe it's time for a toddee. 5 o'clock somewhere. Thanks for taking the time to read this and visiting with me today. I know I've enjoyed the trip. Here's a pic of today's fish. The big one really gave me what for......Skeet.

Can't say if they were carrying or not. I'm teaching myself to use the electric knife and not go through the ribs. No bellies though. Today the overall time was faster cuz I didn't have to remove the ribcage from the fillet. A lot of those were 11 and a little so they were good to practice on. I did notice lots of dark colors though. I hope the pattern doesn't change for a while. I'm kinda enjoying the low stress, one on one with the 2lb rig. It's therapeutic. And cheap.

No Sam. One left me alone and I have a great wife that gives me the coveted kitchen pass pretty often. We've had the conversation about the day when it isn't safe or smart for me to go alone anymore. Until that time, I sometimes get to put down the honey do list and go play more than a man should. This job has already taught her what too much husband is all about.
