Went to the MS coast last week. Dogwoods were in full bloom south of Birmingham. Arrived home yesterday and noticed Dogwoods starting to bloom. Time is about right now...![]()

One of the two Dogwood trees in my backyard has blooms opening. They won't turn white until late this week or early next, but that should mean Crappie moving to the beds!

Dogwoods blooming always meant the White crappie were spawning on the Big G back when they were the predominant crappie in the lake. The black crappie have always started much earlier as they are a more cooler water fish I think. Based on what I have caught and what I have heard and seen caught so far , the black crappie on the Big G are mid ways in their spawn with the biguns already spawned out. The 10 to 12 inchers will be still spawning over the next 2 to 3 weeks. I just hope its a good spawn as last years seems to have been a bad one. If we can get thru the next 3 weeks with no great flood or serious cold wave , it should be a banner year.
I am taking a day or 2 off next week...at least.
I really wished the wind would settle down

What time of day is best for fishing the spawn?
I've been catching the only bed for a week or so but the dogwood thing is pretty close.
