    Default helix 5 questions

what's the difference between the following fish finders and what is Chirp

What I'm looking for is a unit to put on the front of the boat and would probably only need down image, I have SI on the console
They are about the same price
    Any help would be welcome

Gen 2 is the new ones. The chirp is a better version of sonar that can be used to get clearer images. None of those are what you want. You want a di version. I would also suggest that you get one that has N in the name so that you can network it. Adds to the resale value. I know the autochart live function is great and we have talked about it before. That is an extra chip to save that stuff. My advice would be to get the smallest gen 2 that has di and 2 chip slots that can network.

Even though you'll say your hooking up to your TM, is it not true that the us 2 on a TM only gives 2d sonar? If you are adapting the TM with the clamp kit, please say it. It may be misleading to someone and they'll buy something they really don't need, trying to put it up front on a us 2 TM. I may be wrong but that's what I've read and heard from others fishermen. I may be

I have exactly that setup. I have a Helix 5 2D sonar and GPS on my US2 which only supports 2D sonar. I am looking for a good deal on a 7" 2D/GPS (used probably) I have a 7" Lowrance HDS and the larger screen has spoiled me.
If I find one I'll make someone a deal on the Helix. It is a year old and the transducer is still in the box.

Ok I don't know what 2d is. I need something to see the fish on the front of the boat for high lining. I don't need Side view up front

2D is the plain old regular view like we have been using for years. My HDS has DI and SI, but the 2D is what I have most confidence in.
