    Default Rez Question.............

I have never really run a boat wide open on the Rez, and I have fished it only a few times over the years. My question is, can you put in at the landing by the Cock of the Walk and safely motor across the lake to access the river channel and markers? I know Rice Lake is close and full of stumps. Also, do the channel markers start close to the levee? Thanks.

Channel markers start out in front of the Yacht Club. Single ones to start with. Just stay within 40-50 feet of them and you'll b good to go. Once you get to the double markers, reds on one side, green the other. SLOW DOWN and be careful there. MIss one turn and you may regret it in a couple places. BTW, check the winds. If there's a North wind, I put in where you're talking a buot. South wind, I go to the other side of the dam.

If you drew a line from Fannin Landing to Lost Rabbit on the other side of the lake, you can just about run anywhere south of there without worry. Once you hit the double channel markers, well you really have to see it when the lake is a foot or so low to really appreciate how much wood is outside the path.

There is a story, that during a Bassmaster event many years ago, Tommy Biffle was running short on time getting back to the weigh-in. The weigh-in was somewhere down by the dam. It is said he came under 43 and made a straight line wide open to the dam.

He was a brave, but foolish man! I can't tell you how many times I have bumped wood when just idling along. Once you get out of the channel up that way it's anybody's good bet that you can find a clear lane. From the launch at Trace Park, it is pretty well open across toward the Pelahatchie bridge, but turning north you will find a lot of shallow water filled with snags...

They built the dam and flooded timber. It's everywhere. It's safe IF you stay in the channel markers. Going through the S curve is tricky though. Just go a little slower and make sure you stay between the red and green markers and you'll be OK

Been out there 3 days the past week. I've heard that distinct engine whine when the prop just up out of water 3 times. Thankfully not mine.
