Some Moby specks....skeeter-roo![]()

Boy, was it. Saturday the big truck was getting blown around when crossing Jesup in the middle of the day. I knew that if I was going to fish today that I would have to plan on pulling early or hiding from the wind. Started where I've been for the last 2 weeks and it showed me some love again today. Didn't load the boat but did get 6 for the livewell. 2 of those would be above average at 1lb 11oz and 1lb 12oz. I could have not caught another fish and been a happy man, but you know how we are. Not having started until almost 7, I just couldn't leave yet. It was only 10:30. Fired up and ran North a while, looking for something fishy. Also noticed today that the river was back to running north again. Hopefully we get enough rain in the coming weeks to keep it that way. So a blow down that I had fished a few weeks back was occupied, and I wanted new territory to add to the waypoints on the 798. Kept running and didn't have to go far to find what I was after. The down side was the wind. Weatherman said to expect 20 to 30 mph winds today, and for once he didn't lie. I couldn't get the boat to stay put. I have the bigger size river anchor with the 3 tabs and every time the wind gusted, it pulled free. When I lifted it to re-position, all the tabs were full of mud so it was doing all it could. Wound up throwing it over a part of the tree and while shutting down one area of where I wanted to fish, it did allow me to try something new. I had picked up some gulp maggots and was tipping a 1/48 hand tie jig of mine with them. I'm sold on them. I wound up with about a dozen Gills from both places and 4 of them made the cut being fillet size. Some kind of hard fight when they're that size. Looking forward to a calmer day when I can make a better presentation. The 6 Crappie and the 4 gills in the box, the wind showing no sign of letting up, and the clock closing on 1pm, I decided to run a little further north and grab a waypoint or two and call it a day. Moderate boat traffic and Mr. Green Jeans roaming around kept me from getting it done too fast. Some of the big boats were out today, throwing a wake that was best approached head on. Made it to the ramp to find out it was weigh in time for a teen sports tournament and bass boats were wall to wall and all in a hurry to put it on the trailer. I lucked out and had some courteous folks let me get in and out unscathed. That place was just plain crazy!! Hurried home to clean fish and put the ride away before I ran out of energy. Didn't get a sunrise shot today, but did get a pic of the 1lb 12oz and a spread shot and they're added below. Both of the big fish were either males or spawned out females. Only one of what I caught today showed any signs of eggs. Thanks for taking the time to read this and visiting with me today........Skeet.

YEP on the gulp maggots...I've been using them for about three years now. White is my go-to color on a wal-mart long shank light wire cricket hook. I use a small weighted bobber...also....helps with casting accuracy etc. No weight.....I like them to sink S L O W L E Y...seems like that's when they hit em when they're dropping.
