Give a man a fish and feed him for a day.
Teach a man to fish and he'll sit in a boat and drink beer all day!

Lots of variables but most times you will see spawning fish on up into late april. If the waters stable and it warms up and stays warm, it will happen pretty quick. Good thing about the corp lakes is the water isnt stable long. We need some rain very quick like.

I believe day length has all of everything to do with all acts of nature, and the science is there to back it up.

Ducks stage, deer start rubbing and scraping, fish start running for the banks, etc. FIRST AND FOREMOST, based on the time of the season.

The other variables like temp, moon phases, etc. are secondary. It's God's way (or evolution for all the monkeys reading the board) of seeing that there is a time and a place for everything.

Naturally, they'll be fish that'll spawn super early, like late February. However their odds of passing on their genes are iffy because conditions are not ideal, and they can get downright lethal for the eggs/offspring in a hurry. That's one reason I believe that fish spawn differently at different times in different lakes: genetics. Family traditions. But even the early lakes happen in a general time period. March through mid-late April are our times.

As far as shallow, there's no doubt in my mind that, if nighttime temps hold above the 40's, that before long a fellow could possibly be wading, without feeling ridiculous about it, here soon.

But just like a cold snap in late October causes some young bucks to get froggy, the bigguns know it's to soon. You gonna hit it just fine, with all else being equal.

New moon will kick them off, lot to do with water temps, length of day etc... I seen bucks chasing young does this year the last week of January and first of February, so who knows this is a wildcard year by all means, all I can say on the subject with little intelligence on it

I caught 22 single poling in less than 2 foot of water Monday on a big public lake. All but one were males, several over 2lbs. Only time I catch them in this particular spot is when it gets warm in Feb just like it is now.
