    Default OCONEE FRIDAY 2/17/17

I fished Lake Oconee today with my youngest son Matt and his friend Frank. We fished from 7:45-4:30. The water temperature was 54-55 when we started and 58 when we finished. It was a beautiful day on the water but the bite for us was a little slow particularly first thing this morning. We combo trolled by pushing 5 rods out of the front of the boat and pulling 8 rods. We rigged with 1/16 jig head doubles and 1/16 singles with 1/16 split shot. We caught fish on popsicle, wildcat, blu/blk/char, Lake Weiss Killer and bubble gum. No particular jig seemed to work better than the rest today. We caught fish in the channel as well as a few on the flats adjacent to the channel. You can tell from the photos that the guys had a good time. We kept 25 nice crappie.

Yep he did but what an ugly fish! It looks like a Rocky Mountain bonefish to me.

How many lines did that striper tear up?

I thought the water temp would be 3 or 4 degrees warmer based on the last few days. Oh well! See you on the water Sunday, Monday, and/or Tuesday!

Nice to meet you face to face finally, Hotwater.

I wish we had started there instead of where we did.

None! We broke off and fouled up so much today that we probably didn't have more than 2 lines in the water all day. The wind and a dying trolling motor battery didn't help much either.

I hope to be back on Oconee Tuesday fishing with my oldest son and Jim. We will be in a black and tan G3 powered by Yamaha.
