Default Thinking of adding another battery...

I am thinking of adding another battery. 2 for TM, 1 for cranking, lights, and pumps, and one for 2 bigger HB units and livewell aerator. Question is, will one run 2 HB's and aerator all day? What size 24 or 27? Thanks for all input!

Teach a man to fish and he'll sit in a boat and drink beer all day!

I have a grp 24 running 2 HDS 8's with SS/DS and a HB 859 DI/SI, has lasted over 8 hrs before with no issues.
    GO BIG ORANGE !

I meant to behave, but there were just way too many other options available at the time.

What specific units are you talking about .... Here is a chart for the Humminbird units that hasn't been updated yet for the G2 units..... but their current draw can be found in the specs.

    http://www.humminbird.com/Category/S...werDrawValues/

I would multiply the current draw times the number of hours you want to be able to run the units .... and then double that for the AH rating of the battery you want to use. (Cycle life of a battery is greatly improved if you don't discharge more than 50% capacity ...... or to say it the other way around, cycle life of a battery goes down fast the further you discharge more than 50%)

If it will fit, I'd go for the Group 27 battery.

I run a G24 battery for my 90HP outboard, dash gauges, livewell pump, and a small HB depthfinder ... and at day's end, the battery usually is almost still at full charge. I ran a G27 battery for my 42# 12v trolling motor & Lowrance DI unit ... and a full days fishing would discharge the battery to the point where the DI unit would fade or totally quit working (turn off). So ... I went to a G29 size battery for the TM/DI, and the problem is fixed.

If the G24 battery was experiencing the same problem ... I would have moved up to a G27 battery and replaced the battery tray (to fit the larger battery), like I did for the change from a G27 to a G29 for the TM/DI.

And to be honest with ya ... if my Wallyworld had a G31 marine battery in stock, when I went to get a new battery, I would have had it instead of the G29. I just don't think you can ever have too much battery !!

I just changed from a 24 volt system to a 36v for TM. I am no expert here but In researching the difference in a group 31 vs a 29 I was told there is no physical difference in the battery size except one manufacturer uses the 29 designator and another uses a 31. For example the manufacturer who makes interstate uses the 29 designator for their marine deep cycle batteries. I was also told the Amp hours, CA, etc would vary based on quality of battery, plate material/thickness, etc.

I run 3 group 27s because I already had 2 near new ones from the 24 v system and preferred buying only one instead of 3. When I replace I will move up to 31s and actually used the 29/31 battery boxes.
I have a 24 group crank battery and run 2 HB Helix 10s, Ethernet port, heading sensor for Ulterra, a few compartment lights when needed, a live well and all the other boat stuff. No issues with anything so far and have spent up to 10 hours on the water.

When comparing the group 27 vs 24 cranking battery I noticed the main difference was the increase in CCA and not much difference in AH capacity. I also got mixed recommendations for using a dual purpose battery, some saying that is the way to go when running a lot of accessories and others say it doesn't make a difference as long as you don't frequently drain the battery below 50% and/or you charge it shortly after discharging.

    Again, no expert here.
