    Default Bird Question ...

How rare is a wood stork to south Louisiana ? Came home this morning and noticed a weird looking white heron , looked a little closer and realized it was a wood stork .

That isn't a good picture but you can tell it's not a white heron .

Cool ! I'm not a huge bird watcher but kind of freaked out thinking it was a whooping crane . Lol But been reading up on them and they are sort of rare and on the endangered species list . First one I've ever seen .

The Rosetta spoonbills are beautiful .

Cool picture! The backroads by my mom and dads had the sandhill cranes come down by the flocks for years but this year they have built a laydown yard in the field they would come down too so will have to see if they still come down later this year (there are fields next to the laydown yard). Beautiful site to see.

Very nice picture, I enjoy looking at things like that. During the migratory duck and goose season when they follow the Vermilion river where we live moving south, we hear them honking regular above the tree tops. Very close when the fog sets in. What's cool is when the Wood Ducks stop and roost in the trees - really, they do that. Sit in the branches of the trees. I guess that's why they're Wood Ducks, don't know. Lot's for sure roost, quite a sight to see.

They taste best rare. Is that what you mean by rare?

Just kidding. If they were good eating, they would be extinct in La.

    Sorry, can't help myself

You know I sent that pic to a buddy of mine and asked him what kind of bird that was because we grew up together and still live close to each other , he says he don't know but wonders how it taste . Lol

Yes the wood ducks and also the black bellied tree ducks and the fulvous tree duck, or as most call these two ducks - Mexican squealers rest in trees. Also they are VERY good to eat!

Interesting Dwyane, didn't know that. I'll just leave them alone, like's looking at them here close by next to the house. Lots of critters out here.

Yea, I haven't hunted them in a few years. I do love hearing them fly over the house though.
