Default Does anyone remember Donnie Huffstetler??

Donnie is my uncle and he fished Wylie from the 60's until a few years ago when health issues set him back. He is the best 1-rod crappie fisherman I've ever had the honor to fish with. My earliest childhood fishing memories began in the mid-70s in Beaver Dam creek where he, at that time owned a small cabin. He eventually built a home there where he lived until recently. When I purchased my 1st boat in '89 he tried to teach me everything he knew about fishing. I cherish the time I got to spend with him on and off the water. I now live a couple counties away so I don't see him nearly enough.

I'm sure it's a long shot but I thought I would ask to see if any old timers had a chance to know him.

    Have a blessed day...

Don't know him or you, but that's an awesome story. Kudos to him for passing his love for crappie fishing and his knowledge to you. There's still a lot of people out there fishing, but I'm seeing less and less young/teenagers out there ( including mine). We have to do our part, and get these young folks involved. It'll make the world an all around better place to live, if you know what I mean.

I don't know him. Thanks for the story, I'm glad he took you under wing and tried to teach you everything. I'll ask my bothers if they know him. Where did he work at? Hope you hook up with someone who knows him.

Thanks guys for the kind responses..

@jack, I agree totally with what you said. Unfortunately, most kids today are far more interested in electronic things than being outdoors. I'll do my best to introduce fishing to anyone, especially a child.

@brettw, I think there is an Albert in his family but I'll have to check to be sure. Either way, glad someone took time to be an positive influence in your life.

@BigDawgg, I'm thankful that he took time for me as well. He was more of a "dad" to me than my own father. He owned Huffstetler Upholstery in Gastonia NC his entire life. His sons run things these days.

I've been blessed with some good people taking time for me through the years. As I find myself getting older I tend to appreciate their time, patience and guidance more and more. Hero's and mentor's come in all shapes and sizes.

    Have a great week...

Enjoyed your post and like the others I don't know him. If you talk with most good guys they all have someone or a few someone's in their younger life that helped form their lives, I know I did have a few. Our teachers wisdom are passed on through us as it should be if we are doing our part.
    Thanks for sharing.
