The best thing to do is go to Bass Pro Shop, buy some line, and pay them 6-8 bucks to let them spool it for you. If you lose that much line that it is getting too expensive for you, perhaps you should take up golf on a course with 18 water holes,

I run the line through a couple of eyes on the rod, tie to reel, close bail, and crank a couple turns.
Stick a pencil through the spool of line, place the pencil between two toes on each foot so it unwinds over the top, pinch the spool between my toes to apply tension and crank until reel is full.

For long rods, I take the rods down to just the section that holds the reel. I put line on just like CP does. After the line is on, I put the rod in one of my spider rig rod holders. It holds the rod horrizontal. I put the rod back together, run out twice the length of rod of line, cut line. Walk back to the reel and then thread the line through all the eyes. With the rod sitting in the rod holder, it makes it easy to thread the eyes. You just walk down the rod threading the eyes where you can see every eye good. Once done, just walk back to the reel again with the extra line (this is why you pull twice the rod length) and your ready to tie on a rig. Then put the ready rod on the boat.CF

I put the spool on the floor and wind it on holding it between thumb and finger for tension. Once full, I tie it to a swivel and walk away until the reel spool is empty. Winding the line back on while keeping it fairly taut is the last step.

Years ago I tried putting a split stick of teflon material inside a roller bearing. The line was supposed to be held in a slight groove in the middle of the stick. I never got it to work to produce a result any better than tying to a swivel to wind on.

I simply put my line spool on the floor, run line thru a coupla guides and tie to reel. See that the line is going on the reel with the same direction as it comes off the line spool. You can drop the rod tip to create slack and check for coiling. If none then you are good to go. It will twist if its wrong. I apply tension by gripping the line just above the reel with a small towel. i never have to do anything else. Should I get twist from not having my lure on correctly, etc., then I would employ one of the methods for removing twist that others have mentioned.

Holy cow? They charge you ro spool a reel? I bring my spools in often and buy line and they spool em up no charge extra, just cost of line.

Same as CrappiePappy only I remove spool after loading and place in a glass of hot tap water for 10 minutes. I know it sounds fishy (excuse the pun) but I find it works to get the twist out from the store bought stool.
