    Default Poverty Point 1/25

Fished a couple of hours this afternoon at Poverty Point. When I launched at the south ramp about 2:00 there was ONE truck in the parking lot. Ruh Row! Water looked good and was 58-59 degrees. Caught 5 decent ones on Monkey Milk and Blue Ice fishing 18' deep in 23-25 FOW on the south end of the lake.

Thanks for sharing... one day I'm going to make it over that way and check PP out
Do you think I could crank it?

I don't think those coves are big enough to crank. Especially when the board start showing up

    Thanks for the report.

Most of the lake is probably 10' or less. There is a creek bed that runs the length of the lake you might could target though. I suspect there some fish caught on cranks but no one talks about it if they do

I don't think PP would be a very good cranking lake. The deep water is not very long and has isolated stobs that I get hung up on all the time using jigs. I think there's quite a bit of brush also in the big 10' flats that might hinder cranking, plus I've never seen anyone fish for crappie in the open water, although they might be doing it on the sly.

Thanks for the report. Five is enough to feed me and mama. Congratulations on catching a mess of fish.

I haven't fished PP a lot and when I have it has been around the houses on the south end. Curious if they fish the deep water around the spillway at all. I don't recall ever seeing anyone fishing there.

I don't think there is any real deep water around the dam. There might be a bar pit or two but probably not deep enough to hold a lot of winter fish.

Whenever I've been there it's been in a buddys boat and we did very little exploring. I'm going to be down Feb 11-18 with my own boat so I'll check it out. I would like to explore the entire lake, are there any trouble spots I should be aware of?

Yes. There's a wind break that runs along almost the entire east side of the lake. It used to be completely out of the water and clearly visible, now there are only a few spots that are visible but you should be able to see some markers that mark it, I think so anyway. It's been a while. Like someone said the water depth in the main lake isn't much over 8 ft deep and some place 6 ft. Tbone can probably give you more detail he's more familiar than I am
