Yes just put on what ever color first and then after it's dry come back and put Black Pupil in. Also for the Black eye I use on my Roadrunners it's just Vinyl Black as it's the best paint to stay on with out some clear coat over that. Also know if you use regular paint like an Acrylic you have to clear coat over that. Also know when painting a head FL Yellow or Chartreuse the Clear coat like Sally Henson's Hard As Nails will discolor it so I use Clear Vinyl over mine if I do them at all. I pretty much stopped except for the Black eyes on my little Roadrunners. Don't think it makes enough difference to go through all that extra time spent on eyes. Just my 2 cents though!
I mean really an crappie or any other fish is going to make sure the eye has a color and a Black pupil? Don't think so and just a Black dot is so much easier and less time spent.
Oh just a side note....Black and Clear Vinyl are about the only colors the have good Gloss to them and most all colors except Black requires a White undercoat before the final color and then the Clear would have to go over this to make them have good Gloss!

I learned how to paint eyes in art class. Yes, I took art. We used nail heads. Same principle.

I have found that a typing eraser pencil works great You can sharpen it in a pencil sharpener and cut it off flat with a razor blade to the size you want I really holds paint well.
Some use enamel and some even use Acrylic, but for sure the Acrylic has to have something over it for protection. I use Vinyl paint on the little Roadrunners as they are only Black and Black Vinyl is about the only color in that which is shiny and colors all need a white undercoat which would kind of be a pain. I once did eyes in outdoor Acrylic and over coated with Sally Henson's Hard As Nails, but if it was a FL Yellow or FL Chart color then had to use the clear Vinyl as it's nice and shiny also and can go over all the color without trouble. All my Vinyl paints are from CSI (Pro-Tec is their Powder Paint). If one gets use to using Vinyl it actually is even more durable than Powder Paint. I know some use it all the time, but for me a brush on paint ands drying time makes me powder paint most of the time, but I keep wishing I had a better way to use the Vinyl, lol!
Also will post a picture below of one of the jigs I put eyes on with the drill bits years ago I think in 2006. This most likely was Acrylic and Sally Henson's Hard As Nail over coat.
