Drink lots of water too. I have heard a stat that something like 70% of americans walk around partially dehydrated. We, as a whole, don't drink enough water. Water is like oil for our joints and probably more importantly all the rest of our body functions including our brains.
May sound stupid but I would stretch my hands, fingers and wrists before tinkering in the garage or fishing. If I was using my hands a lot I would try and stretch every two hours or so.

Been laying low this week after making a visit to my doctor. Gave a few samples and script for Flector patches, anti-inflammatory that absorbs thru the skin. Seems to be helping, and trying to easy with as well. Also been wearing my brace with some relieved pain. Got the itch to fish, so we are gonna test out the elbow here sometime. Thanks for all the info gents.

Setting the hook, feeling the thump, was what irritated my elbow. I had to put my hand rod down and use the rod holders. You'll still catch fish but it won't be as painful. Those jarring thumps from those big slabs catch up to us after time.

Did all of the above for almost 2 years, ended up having surgery and have not had another problem in over 25 years.
