    Default Lowrance hook

Looking at a 7 hook chirp

    For front of boat

What you all think of the unit??

Or should I go with the Garmin equivalent?

The Hook series is a great unit for the bow. The mapping /GPS performance is the weak point but at the bow, you may not even notice. The Hook's Digital broad band sonar equals units that cost many $$ more. I won't knock the Garmin either. It performs very well. You can't add a map card to the Garmin but if your lake is covered with the pre-loaded maps, then you will be happy with it. I would rate the Hook with slightly better down scan at trolling speeds with 2D very close on both units. Brian

The Helix 7 DI GPS would rate well also. Down imaging as good as the Lowrance.. It comes down to features you want and in the end , it's going to be personal preference. Brian
