Default Cold day, Jan 8, 2017

Made an outing today with my brother. Mostly to check ice and pick up bait for future trips. We drove to Bouvier Bay and what a surprise, a city had popped up all on the ice.

But we were suspicious of the safety so we settled on the canal. And it wasn't a bad choice, fish were biting and we stood on 6 inches of ice. Some bluegills and rockbass. Even crappies!
Only stayed out for a few hours but we got a small mess.

Cool. Dad and I went to a lake today too. I had not been there in awhile. Had to garner permission again but a few hats and the promise of some walleye on a return trip was all it took to gain access.

Fishing was ok. They ran a little on the small side but we kept 19 or 20. Catch 1 crappie that lived on and one large mouth that did the same.

Good job MM, Glad to see people getting out on the ice. I had every intention of getting out as well, but then the wheels fell off the idea.

I have this app called "ice report" and I noticed a lot of reports were made over the weekend with ice getting thicker.......maybe next weekend I'll get out.

That's what I was thinking. We have friends who enjoy ice fishing but I didn't want to send an invitation only to dash their hopes with thin ice. It was cold. Glad my carhartts have deep pockets.
That's about what we caught Rich, 1 crappie. It was mostly a bluegill frenzy.
