Finally got on the score board then the wind drove me off. Caught 11 of which 6 came home. On minnows drifting, suspended 20 to 25 ft. There was a 25 ft flat that dropped to 30-31ft. Picked them up just off the fall. Close to the dam. Left ya'll the bread crumbs. Go get em.

Thanks Skip, glad to find this forum. I'm not the best Crappie angler and hoping as I read other post I can learn more. What i did was something shared to me by a guy on Pines. That's why I shared my location and method like Stovall did so others learning can give it a try and won't give up. It'd be cool to bump boats on a lake sometime with other like minded folk to. Grew up catfishing, pretty easy. Crappie is a whole new world. By the way, January is real close to February and just as cold. Lol
Well that is true some times, but not always. Let me tell you a short true story from 2013. It was Super Bowl Sunday and my neighbor and I were going to give it a shot. Now remembering back the previous week the temps had been in the low 70's for at least 4 or 5 of these days. So he wanted to go cast a white spinner bait for some bass and I wanted to just see if by chance the crappie had used that warm week to come shallow. I started off trying a new bait I had never made before and it had a prop blade on the shank of the hook and a feather tail. I had only been casting for a few minutes and caught a crappie and this was shallow water. So he put away his bass stuff and we went longline trolling which is my favorite why to catch crappie! Anyway we didn't even get out until about 7:30 or 8:00 to let the cooler morning warm just a little. We took lunch from noon until about 2:30 so no hurry, but we were killing the crappie! We ended our day at 5:00!
