The cold front might slow them down but usually a day or two later they will be hungry. Have you thought of fishing Henderson, it's not a far drive and the fishing has been pretty good lately.

I've pretty much finished setting up my new little Jon and the weather has not cooperated the past month with my schedule to allow me to get out and enjoy it. I've been itching bad to put it in the water and wet a line. I'm off for the next few days and was wondering with this cold front coming though this weekend if it was even worth giving it a try. I live in the Lafayette area (Broussard) and was thinking of a half a day trip to either Lake Martin or the edge of the basin somewhere. Will be using live bait for crappie or bream. I'm not picky right now, just want to try out my new boat.
So, would I be wasting my time with the current weather moving through, or give it a try? Any other location suggestions near Lafayette?
Thanks.

I would wait until the first part of the week before venturing out with the new Jon boat. The cold rain, freezing temperatures, and 20 mph winds will be ugly for me at least. Henderson for sure after that, should be very pleasant.

Thanks. I know Henderson is the go-to spot around here, but I'm not familiar with that area yet. I'll just wait it out another week or so.
Personally, I don't think the weather hinders the fish as much as it hinders us. The rain, the freezing temps, and the wind will make fishing pretty miserable and even dangerous for the next few days. However, with all of that said, I have caught some of the biggest crappie in my life while I had to break the ice off of the minnow net between minnows. It is the wind that is the most dangerous, especially in smaller boats. Good luck when you decide to venture out.

Lake Martin is beautiful........but the fish are a mysterious legend there...LOL....Henderson is my suggestion too and not Sat or Sunday.....too cold for fisher people.....

Fish bite better for me the colder it gets. I love fishing in when fronts come in and it's raining, but my situation is different.

I'd fish Henderson under the interstate. In the deepest water and slow bumbing off the bottom
Oh and fish slow.
