Default New to crappie fishing in Florida

    Hello,

New to fishing in freshwater. Fish salt all almost all my life. Here is one of our catches this year. Good way to start off 2017.
Lake Poinsett. Hoping to learn more about catching these things.

I also fish a lot of saltwater, the sweetwater fish open up alot of opportunities: usually closer for short days and can get on the water on marginal wind days. Plus, these crappie are very addictive

    Welcome aboard.
Crappie fishing is a lot of fun - and you can eat your catch -most lakes in Florida do not have a size limit, but
as rule of thumb - 10" would be start of "keeper size" and 25 per person is law on daily catch.
Thanks for posting you catch - very nice

Welcome, that's one fine Slab to start off with, the water levels must be very low over there = excellent spawning area, was working out that way last week & seen the parking lot about full with boat trailers off Rt. 520 across from Lone Cabbage...was wondering if they were fishing the river or lake Poinsett.

Thanks everyone for the welcome. So far I have only fished Lake Poinsett looking forward to trying more lakes near east central Florida.
