Bill, it's an old fly fisherman's trick. Just grab each side of the rod at the joint behind your knees and squat. It will work most of the time.

I have a cooler you can use. If you try all this other ways and they don't work

like meatgetter said, just spray em with wd40 and be done with it. then put some vaseline on em and move on to something more complicated

old fly fisher showed me to rub the ferrule along the side of your nose when you put them together. oil from the sebaceous glands lube them. used the knee trick lots of times too.

Old timer taught me the same thing and Gomer is right it does work, but the sides of my nose started turning red after awhile.

After trying freezing rod joints- no luck, heating rod joints- no luck, and trying the squating with rod behind your knees- this did free up 2 stuck joints- then tried WD40- no luck and then had to wash oil off the rods, I tried the method shown on the link below.

This worked fairly easily and un-stuck all the remaining stuck rod sections .... I would try this first if you ever have some get stuck.

Yep, it works for sure. Just do it real slow. Had to do it with a couple of my steelhead rods!
