After several enjoyable perch jerks, it was time to swap back over to crappie for a little while. Last Thursday my dad and uncle joined me as we attempted to jig up some slabs. "Attempt" was about all we did. We found the fishing to be tough at best. We fished from about 7:30 till noon and caught several fish but only had 3 keepers in the box when we stopped. The few fish we found were 15 foot down in about 30 FOW and the wind made it tough to get our baits down to them. To make matters worse, I apparently didn't get a good charge on my trolling batteries and they died after fighting the wind for several hours. We counted our losses and released the fish in the livewell to catch another day.
Friday morning my dad joined me for another trip and we changed tactics to spider rigging and moved to a different area of the lake. The move payed off big time in the numbers department, but the size still wasn't what I was hoping for. We fished till about noon again and went through 6-8 dozen minnows. I'd venture to say we boated 40-50 crappie with a few perch, bream, and striper mixed in. We even caught 5 white crappie, with 4 keepers in the mix! When it was all said and done we kept 19 crappie and a few perch for the knife. We found most of them in 10-12 FOW fishing on the bottom with minnows. Pink and red were the best colors. It was an enjoyable day of fish catching. I'm hoping to make a few more trips this week before I have to go back to work. Hopefully I'll stumble on the big fish before long, if not, I'll enjoy catching what the good Lord gives me!
Merry Christmas and tight lines to all!

Good report CB and good move making the move to where the crappie bite was at. Good to see those white crappie and congrats on the box of keepers. Having more time on the lake I'm sure you will find the bigger fish hiding place.![]()

Good reporting. Thanks for sharing and the picture. Glad you got to go with the family and wet some hooks and catch a few fish. Sounded like fun was had with your Dad.
Nice catch Derek glad you and pop put it together and caught some fish. Thanks for sharing
Looks like you found what worked for you and your Dad that changed your luck. Congrats on the catches and thanks for sharing.![]()
Derek, glad you had good quality family time and caught some fish for the icing on the cake. Thanks for the report and pic.
Been fighting a heck of a head cold since Saturday, but the boats hooked up. I figure I can cough and hack up half a lung on the water just as easy as in my recliner in the morning. I always use the rule of thumb that if I would go to work I can go fish so I'm not planning on wasting any more vacation time!! Haha
