    Default What's better???

Which is better down imaging or side imaging? I found a couple different models on sale at academy but I don't know just a whole lot about either.

IMO, I prefer down imaging up front at the bow. And I use both side and down imaging at the transom, depending on what I am wanting to see determines the view.
I would suggest to stay away from the lowrance elite or Ti units.

Kind of like comparing apples to oranges. Two totally different things.

Depends on your style of fishing, if you jig brushpiles in deep water then DI may be better, the new Helix units sure have a good pic too.

Yes but in the core humminbird units the DI only units perform better in DI mode than they do on the SI/DI models, Helix supposed to have fixed that. I use 2D/360 on split screens, 360 on about 80% of the screen. Use map on full screen on the console unit turned to the front.

I will say this,si isn't wort a dime if you don't spend the time and learn to use it,I would bet over half of the si owners don't

Used to, I would have debated you on this one. It's a powerful unit (the elite Ti is the same as a Gen 3 with more perks) and I loved it.

However if the dang thing won't work then it's not very powerful eh?

I've always taken care of mine and yet it now has a short in it. I gave to redneck rig it to where it does nit move an inch. If it moves any, it restarts. In short, that sucks.

And I dread the day it won't restart and I have to deal with Lowrance's "customer service"- for lack of a better phrase.

Blueball is right, if ur gonna get the SI, take the time to learn how to read it. Most people will not be able to read screen right away. It's takes time to learn to interpret those images. You will need to learn what crappie look like, stake beds, etc.
