SPRINGFIELD, IL – The Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) today terminated the lease agreement with Rend Lake Resort, Inc. and intends to seek a new operator for the Rend Lake Resort and Conference Center, located on Rend Lake at Wayne Fitzgerrell State Recreation Area in southern Illinois.

IDNR has several concerns about the condition of the buildings at the Rend Lake Resort and Conference Center. Mold, peeling paint, and other potential health and safety related discoveries led the Department to have safety concerns for visitors to the resort.

“The health and safety of Illinoisans is paramount,” IDNR Director Wayne Rosenthal said. “The department must take these steps to protect families and valuable state assets.”

The resort operator notified IDNR this week that it planned to close the facility.

The lease termination follows a notice from IDNR to Rend Lake Resort, Inc. last month that the firm was delinquent in rent and related lease payments totaling more than $205,000. The IDNR is also of the understanding that the operator owes $14,000 in real estate taxes, $21,000 in utility payments, and $47,000 in hotel operator’s taxes.

The Rend Lake Resort and Conference Center, which opened in 1990, has 104 hotel rooms, suites, and cabins adjoining the lake, and a conference center including meeting rooms and banquet facilities. The resort also has a restaurant and bar, boat docks and boat rentals, an outdoor swimming pool and tennis court.

Activities and outdoor recreation opportunities at the Wayne Fitzgerrell State Recreation Area and the 19,000-acre Rend Lake include boating, fishing, hunting, trail riding, wildlife watching, swimming, and field dog trial grounds.

I stayed there one night a couple years back. It was the most disgusting place I've ever been too. Now I did like going to the Bar, food was good and friendly people. Every time I go down there fishing I stop in for a beer and burger. Awesome facilities if taken care off. Nice ramps, docks, parking areas. Also heard they just reopened the fish cleaning station.

Maybe they can get a two for one deal on a demolition crew, Rend Lake Resort and Eagle Creek Resort.
It's too bad they can't make a small food/bar joint in place of the resorts.

rend resort is big. 3 or 4 nice ramps, real nice docks. indoor or outdoor dinning, plus bar. we tried to stay in one of the Boatels, overlooking the lake, would have been nice if cleaned up. It was just totally nasty, we slept on top on blankets, then they transfered us to a room in the main motel, it was worse. we left.

The state needs to get out of the Hotel and Restaurant businesses. They can't get hunting and fishing right most of the time. They definitely can't operate the State on a profitable basis on the larger level. Get out and concentrate on wildlife.

Difficult for that to happen in this state of Chicago. Madigan has control of this states financials.

I thought we had new leadership at the top of this state. Has the word compromise been lost from all of the US? I guess Raunter knows how Obama feels. You can't just give any relative the management of the state's properties and expect them to tow the line. Someone needs to watch. Did we get our money back or did the managers just get a nice retirement bonus?

The state of Illinois 'government' has been FILLED with low-life scumbags and bottom feeders for over 50 years. I remember back to Dirksen with his shoeboxes. Check our illustrious history.... No wonder so many people are leaving!
