What about earlier than March? I was late to the party last year, so I'm looking to get started as soon as possible this year.

To me the best fishing is November, December and last week of February to end of March, it's usually played out by end of March but by then Darbonne has kicked off good....

Hopefully that holds true this spring. I'm coming back down mid Feb. for a week+ and plan on hitting both D'arbonne and Poverty. Maybe a 3 lb plus is in my future.

Depending on the weather in March, the white perch can either be shallow on the banks or still in the deep water channels--or both. Go to the southeast side of the lake where the houses are and you'll find a couple of inlets where the old Bayou Macon channel is. If they're still deep, fish anywhere from 12-20 feet deep until you find them. If they've moved shallow, fish about 12-18 inches deep out from the rocks in these same inlets in 2-3 feet of water. Also go to the northwest corner and fish the inlet behind the marina that's sort of along the highway. Fish shallow along the bank and just drift around fishing about 4-6 feet deep. It gets mighty crowded in all of these places. I go to PP quite a bit in the spring but the number of fish I've caught has gone down dramatically over the last few years, although the quality of the fish is still good.
