Thread: Report: Chickamauga Lake crappie 12/05/2016

I was just sitting around the house on Monday morning, after having a breakfast egg/ham sandwich with coffee and wondering what I would do with the rest of the day. My wife didn't want me making any more desserts, so I looked at the weather and saw that the rain was going to hold off until 2:00 PM, so I said "Self, why don't you go fishing?" And Self said, "I think that I will go for a couple of hours".
Self is pretty smart sometimes. Anyway, I got on the water around 11:00 AM and put the boat back on the trailer at 1:00 PM. I fished off shore brush and a fallen tree. I had my limit in 1 1/2 hours and finished up with 19 keepers and several short fish during that time frame. I made it back home just as it started to drizzle. Perfect timing. Grin.
Bass Assassin Pro Tiny 2" shads in Limetreuse Glow and Limetreuse Ghost worked very good. After I had a limit, I decided to experiment just a little bit and let me tell you guys something. Unless you are fishing the Bass Assassin 2" Dapper, you are probably missing some fish. I caught my biggest fish on a Bluegrass Dapper on a 1/16 oz jig head that I painted blue. I love these baits.
Water temp was 57 in the river and 55.7 in Waconda Bay where I launch. Most of my fish came on a 1/24 oz orange painted jig head and on a 6-8 count. I found some fish just a little deeper and went to the 1/16 oz Dapper. The crappie like this bait.
It is getting rainy and colder, so I won't be going back out until Thursday. Oh, you need to fish the baits slowly and watch your line. I caught several fish on bites that most people would never set the hook on because they were almost undetectable. The north wind picked up after the first hour and made the fishing just a little more difficult. Note to beginners. When you are fishing in the wind and the wind has your line in a "C", watch the line like a hawk. If it straightens out and the wind hasn't slacked, set the hook. A crappie has inhaled your jig and is slowly moving off. You never feel these bites.
