It all depends on pulling or pushing. Are you just pulling jigs off the back or are you planning on pulling Crankbaits. For spider rigging I use 14 ft southern crappie rods most of the time but also have a set of their 12 ft er's. These are mated with Thumbar bait casters spooled with 12-2 braid. For pulling jigs off the back I use 6.6 bait casting and spinning rods in med light action. For pulling cranks I use med heavy bait cast rods 6 and 7 ft with line counter reels and planner boards. I do not like the line counters for pulling jigs or spider rigging. To bulky and cumbersome. You can figure out what rods and reel combo you want for spider rigging and use those same combos for pulling jigs. Any decent reel will work for both..
