    Default Questions about Helix setups

Need some help on configuring the boat for multi-species. I love to crappie fish and set the FFs up last year with that in mind. I have a Helix 10 SI/GPS on the console with TD on the transom and a Helix 10 DI on the bow with TD on the TM. Both are networked. Setup works great and the only thing I thing I am going to add is GPS pucks to each unit. I will also be upgrading the TM from the foot controlled edge to an Ulterra.

In the summer I primarily fish the Mississippi for cats using a technique called back bouncing while using the TM to hold/slow the boat in the current. Once I upgrade the TM I will no longer be tied to the front deck to control the TM and it will be best to fish from the back deck for the cats.

Here is my question. I am wanting to be able to switch the location of the Helix DI unit from the front to the back to use for the different type of fishing.
Can I just buy another TD, mount on the transom next to the SI TD?
Will they interfere with each other?
Also, what is the best way to connect the two units?
Is there a splitter for the Ethernet cable or do I need an A/B switch?

I see there is only one Ethernet connector on the back of each unit. I prefer to keep all the cables hidden.
    Thanks
    Mike

2 units transmitting the same frequencies at the same time can cause crosstalk interference ... this possibility is increased the closer the xducers are together ... every boat is different ... yours may or may not experience crosstalk ...

You may need to turn Sonar off one unit and use it as a chart plotter only if there is crosstalk ...
    -----

If there are plans to network the Ulterra to the units - you will need the AS ETH 5PXG 5 port switch ... with Ethernet cables reaching both units and the Ulterra ...
    http://www.humminbird.com/Products/AS-ETH-5PXG/

A 2nd station can be set up at the transom by installing an xducer, power cord, gimbal mount (or Ram mount), and Ethernet cable to reach the same AS ETH 5PXG switch ...

You will also need an AS EC QDE adapter cable at each unit for the Ethernet cables to connect to the head units ...
    http://www.humminbird.com/Products/AS-EC-QDE/

The AS ETH 5PXG requires 12v power so plan its installation ... and then determine how long of Ethernet cables to reach each unit and the Ulterra from the AS ETH 5PXG ...

    Thanks Rickie
I appreciate the info and will definitely have to plan the power and location of the 5 port. I think I will run it off the fuse panel I put under the drivers console which powers that unit.

Does the AS GPS HS puck/cable connect right to the Helix units or do they require an adapter cable?

External antennas will connect direct to the Comm Port ...

You will need to disassemble the cable collector and include the external antenna connector in reassembly of the cable collector ...

I am new to this. Why the need for the extra TD on back for the DI only unit. IF the units are networked can't the DI imaging from the transom SI/DI TD be seen by the DI only unit currently on the bow. IF so then simply moving the DI unit from the bow unit to a new location on the rear deck that provides power, and networking cable work?

The SI xducer does not have a dedicated DI piezo for true DI ...

The DI unit can use the SI xducer but the DI image would be blended DI from the SI piezoes in the SI xducer ...

In order to have true dedicated DI on the transom - a dedicated DI xducer will need to be installed on the transom ...
