I personally would go with at least the 10 ..... Especially if you are doing split screen views it is much better to have a bigger screen.

Will these G2N's communicate with the 858ci HD thru Ethernet?

Give a man a fish and feed him for a day.
Teach a man to fish and he'll sit in a boat and drink beer all day!

No one knows 100% sure yet. My guess is that there will at the very least be waypoint sharing ..... It is doubtful that the new transducer would be able to be shared .... but it may be possible to share 2D if not chirping.

We'll know more when people start getting them installed and who knows what software updates will come out. The xx8 series is probably nearing the end of it's updates, however.

Waypoint sharing is what I am hoping for. I know map sharing is a ways off. Thanks!

Would be nice if they would do the map sharing and scroll back

So less is more now, with more power? This kind of goes against the 300FT bragging argument. I agree, and have always agreed on HB and LOW, the less you scan, the better it is.

I have a helix 9 and wish i had sprung for a 10. The extra inch would help and so would some more resolution.

Now the question is for the new buyer, get a gen 1 at a screaming price or get the latest greatest?

Yes.....I would use it quite a bit when scanning for new stuff. Sometimes it's kind of hard to drive and mark everything when looking for brush or under water laydowns. Also, when you move the cursor to mark a waypoint, you stop the scrolling and sometimes miss things because the boat is still moving.

You can accomplish the scroll back by recording and playing back, but a little more trouble to do that.
