    Default Motor trouble


    Where to start a mechanic I guess (lol)1999 Mercury 125 hp oil injection removed it's been cutting in and out lately until full throttle then runs fine till today started fine this morning went to start back up to head in started ok just seem to be burning rich then wouldn't open up at all got to ramp shut motor off to back truck in then motor want start?

    Step 1. Uninstall motor from boat

    Step 2. Install motor on maintenance stand

    Step 3. Drain oil from crankcase if you wish

    Step 4. Ditch old mercury and buy a new Yamaha

    Step 5. Install new Yamaha

    Step 6. fishing, again

    Sounds like a fuel problem. Start at the beginning check compression on all cylinders, then check spark on all cylinders. If you have compression and spark you know it's fuel problem. Check fuel lines for a fuel leak and check primer bulb to make sure your fuel line is holding pressure. If that's good most likely looking at a carb rebuild possibly a fuel pump. Someone might be able to give you some better info but it's a place to start.

    Mine (2000 Mercury 150) acted similar to yours and it ended up just being a fuel filter stopped up. Checking it is quick and easy.
