This is the first time we have had more than 3 or 4 come to our door. So far all have been local kids in our subdivision and oldest one was about 8. Total count so far around 15. If it ever gets crazy like some of you experience, we will turn off the lights as well.
The little ones around 4 to 6 or cute though.

Great night out with the wife. Visit to hospital to find out her aunt had just been discharged (great news). Chinese buffet (had tuna fillets on hibachi grill!!) (ate too much), shopping at Sam's Club, Hobby Lobby, and Michael's for supplies for the shop, raided WalMart and bought 8 of a secret crank bait (all they had), and lastly a run thru Sonic for a Cherry-Limeade for the trip home. We left our house at 5 pm and our street was already blocked with tractors pulling wagons, golf carts and clown-car mini-vans. Got home at 9:20 and it was still bumper-to-bumper. We sneaked in and left the lights out. I think we have more fun avoiding them than they do mooching candy.

I'm in the county and on a dirt section of road and have very few treaters, if any. We have three Gdaughters from 7 to 13, two of which were with their Mom last night. The city closes off downtown and the local businesses give treats and a police and fire dept presence. Restaurants do a brisk trade for a few hours and it makes it easier to spend time with them for the few years of this they have left, and see the dressed up little ones and the pets that are dressed for the occasion. I'm not interested in the crowds of kids milling around mine or any other neighborhood, and don't approve of the idea of going to the better neighborhoods just to load up on the spoils. Teaches a poor message to the young ones. Met my daughter and sil and the remaining gdaughter for a couple of hours downtown, had a bite and a scoop of ice cream and called it a night. Saw the first human jellyfish ever, and a very well done Dracula that had a lot of fun with everyone, young and old. I was raised on Long Island and it was a big thing for us, tract homes for miles in every direction and also few store bought costumes. And little mischief was found, never heard of toilet papering a house til I moved south at 15. Like everything else it has been commercialized until the thrill is all but gone. Haven't entertained the idea of attending a party for years. Maybe next year we'll go to the coast and get a few shrimp and walk the beach a little while.

One resident on third street reported a count of 1025. That wasn't the record either. To my knowledge, all went well. Several houses were set up for the treaters and several had their lights off. Now we will hear nothing but Christmas ads. Thanksgiving seems to have been submerged by the Christmas marketing.

Renting a cabin at a state park and having the youngones and friends over for a wiener roast ,simple games and treats during a movie seems safer .Just an idea for next year .

We put the car in the garage turn out the lights and watch TV in the back room. Not enough kids around here to make it worth fooling with.

But that's the best time to buy bags of candy! What they don't get is yours.
