I think you have your Rob's mixed up.It's getting crowded at Cypress, too. The word is spreading that they are on the bite. The ski boats are being replaced with fishing boats. I launched at 6:30 and woke the roosters up. It wasn't long after the sun peeked through the trees that the flood gate opened. Managed to work around everyone fine. My only obstacle was a stump about 15ft deep that grabbed a crank while I was in the middle of trying to land a triple on three other rods. I guess I accidentally turned the boat to sharp and heard the splash, then turned to watch a brand new rod and reel sink into the abyss to become someone else's catch of the day some time. Managed to put 22 good fish in the box and 3 dinks that ripped their gills out. Only lost three good fish at the top when they tangled other lines, and had a few I didn't get to see get off. Greg, as you were pulling your boat up the ramp, the big ones started biting again. I stuck around another hour before battery #2 was starting to get weak. Remember that spot I was circling and give it a go some time. Seemed to produce some nice sized fish. Several of the jig/shiner folks had a slower day than I did, so I didn't feel so bad about my catch. Filled two gallon freezer bags with 'em. I'll be taking the wife and her best friend tomorrow, so I don't know how well it'll go, but hopefully I can get them on some action.

My hat is off to you "crankers." Ya'll know how to put a hurtin on them crappie. I know that I will never catch as many fish as ya'll do, but I am unapologetically addicted to the THUMP.Plus, I am a little hard headed.

I love jig fishing. It's the only way I was raised to do it. Until this year, I've never heard of anyone trolling with cranks. I've been fortunate to have a local, Greg, who knows how to put a hurtin' on 'em pulling cranks and has been more than helpful. I have had so much fun filling the freezer lately. I've also learned that you must be patient in finding the right depth and speed to be successful. You've also got to be ready to lose some baits and an occasional brand new rod and reel. It's been worth it though. I'll get back to jigging once they're wadded back up, but while they're scattered all over the lake, I'm going to keep pulling. When you hit a group and they all go for a crank, it's complete chaos on my boat trying to get them up without tangling every line on one side. Some times they do and you lose fish, then have to straighten out a mess. But sometimes you put several big fish in the box with the quickness. Pulling in a slab with 80-100ft of line out, nearly at the bottom is fun. It's every bit as much fun as your line squealing in circles when one pounds a jig. I wish I knew about this technique years ago. Great way to find the schools to know where to jig too.
