Thread: Anybody heard from Crappiefarmer ?

I'm friends with a guy on Facebook. He is a crop insurance guy over in that area. He has posted some pictures of damage over in that area and it is bad. Fields ruined, roads washed out, homes ruined. I'm betting he has had more on his plate than he can deal with right now. About all we can do is lift up prayers for him and all the other folks affected by that storm.

Thanks for the concern MM. Living with my parents until my house is repaired. House has been gutted down to subfloors. They are ok but we are going to have them torn out and replaced while we are down to them. Lost everything I owned on my first floor basically. I did have flood insurance and think I have a good adjuster. Don't have results back from our claim so jury still out.

As Cray said, I have a full plate. Dealing with a crop diaster, home disaster, my daughter's car which I put in our garage got water wicked into the floors and being told it will be totaled so I will be starting over with payments on that. Spent the past two weeks throwing 23 years worth of my life in the garbage and picking crops at a snail's pace because of wind blown crops. Combine breaking down daily. Both my kids are dealing with major problems of their own at no fault of their own and kim and I are trying to help them too. Never thought I would see my whole world crash down at once.

Saying all that, I am doing fine. Tired. Ready for a day off that is a long ways away. Been working from 6 AM to 12 AM since the storm. We should have been through with my sorghum crop almost a month ago and still have a quarter of it left. If we could just finish that, I could really focus on the house for a couple weeks. The couple guys I have doing my carpentry work who gutted my house, are fast, hard working and honest. They will be getting the bulk of the work. They are reasonable and I trust them. That is a big relief having someone to guide you through all the things you have to go through in a deal like this. For a few days I could not tell if I was coming or going. Where to start? You just start doing something cause it all has to be done.

I have had help from friends and family. Ricky brought 3 of his buddies over last Sunday and they cleared all the furniture out of the house in 3 hours and threw it all in my dump truck to haul to the landfill. I have hauled in 8 tons of stuff from my house.

You take it a day at a time. I have learned that from 23 years of farming. The big picture is overwhelming. You put in the work, work hard, and do your best and then one day you see the short rows and all of a sudden, your done. I also have experience from Isabel to fall back on. Things are different this time but if I could make it through Isabel, I can make it through this.

I took my boat to my mechanic to finish it up for me. I will still mount trolling motor, depth finders, rodholders but he is doing what I would have been having to do research and learning how to do things on and would have took another month for me to do. I am ready to go fishing again. It has been 2 years. I need to go fishing for my sanity. And I am ready. It's been too long. I am not waiting anymore. As soon as my house is complete, I will really be going fishing. Ready for some resemblance of normalcy.

Going to power through this, get life straight and go fishing. It's what I love to do and its time to get on with it.CF

So sorry for all the problems that have been put on yours and wife's shoulders. Keep the faith God will get you through this

Dang CF my heart goes out to you. That's a rough spot for sure.

a hard row to hoe for sure...but I'd move to higher ground myself. would not look forward to going thru the same thing in another 20 years...
