The beauty of Crappie is you can use whatever kind of rod you want, from cane pole to high dollar set-ups. I have been out fished by my buddy and his catfish pole casting 1/16" jigs on 10 pound mono, and mot wife with a Ugly stick and Zebco 33 reel.
I used to fish with Berkley Ligthin Rods, however I upgraded to St. Croix Premier series ultra lights and Shimano Sedona or Sahara reels. I can cast further than my wife and my buddy. But that doesn't matter when your slip bobber fishing over brush piles. The key question for slip bobber fishing is how easy is it to submerge your bobber. Clsoer you make it neutrally buoyant the better.
