Default Crickets crickets my kingdom for crickets

I was in wal mart sporting goods department two days ago and the crickets were "flying off the shelves". 5 folks came in for them and someone called on the phone to see if they had any left. The fish are biting somewhere!!!

Definitely a biting sign in my area when crickets are gone. Wax worms are usually next to go!

FYI: if your local bait store is out of stock, pet stores are a great option. I get all of my bait from Petco.

That's good info. It is rare I fish with crickets but come late fall of the year around here most bait shops....stores.....quit carrying them.

I'm fortunate to have both a Petsmart and a Petco very close to me. Both have more and better varieties of bait than the local bait stores. My local Petco, for example, carries several different sizes of meal worms, plus waxworms, "superworms" (kind of a giant meal worm), and crickets.

Two cups is about the most I usually have a chance to get here at the local Wally World. I've asked the clerks to stock more, but they either don't care or they are actually selling really fast. Last time I was there, they had one cup and no wax worms. I guess the wax worms have really caught on in this area. Back in the spring they would have dozens of wax worm cups. Last few times I've been there they've had hardly any wax worms in stock.

I miss the days when I had a local bait shop that sold crickets by the tube. Man, you got so much for the money buying by the tube.

That is what I though about the crickets. They are 10X the price for crickets that a bait store sells.

    You mean the pet stores?

I tried that once and was shocked at the price. This was many years ago, but seems to me that they charged almost as much for a dozen that bait shops charged for a tube.
