I left Jackson this morning around 5:45 headed to Lake Oconee. I had not crappie fished since August 3 so I didn't know what to expect. When I launched at Sugar Creek I thought I would need a ladder to get from the dock into my boat. The water was down 2-3 feet. My original plan was to fish the channel out to the river. However, I did not see anything promising on the depth finder so I traveled to mid lake. I began long lining 10 rods at 7:20. As I got to my first way points I noticed a "pod" of crappie suspended at 10-15 feet in water that was 25-28 feet deep. These fish were very courteous and I had 5 fish in the cooler in the first 5-10 minutes and rods scattered all over my boat. The bite was steady all morning. I lost a good bit of tackle trolling through the woods but that is where the fish were. They were not tight to the timber but close to the timber. At 11:00 I decided to try pushing jigs and slowing my speed from 1.1 to .7-.8 mph. I added 3/4 oz of weight to six of my rods, placed them in the front rod holders and turned my chair around. I quit fishing at 12:30 with 20 fish in the cooler that ranged from 10.75-11.75 inches. I culled at least 20 more fish. While long lining I fished 6 rods out the back with 1/16 oz jigs and 1/16 oz split shot. The side rods (12&16 footers) were rigged with 1/16 oz doubles. A few days ago Dutch noted in his post that blue was the color yielding the best results for him on Blackshear. That was the case for me today on Oconee. The jigs that worked the best were the Blue Ice and the Lake Weiss Killer pictured below. I also caught fish on Popsicle (it has blue in it also) and Acid Rain. The weather was pleasant and boat traffic light. I had a blessed day.

I knew it wouldn't be to much longer before you started slaying them again. Great catch. Hope to be out there next week.
