Default Kayak Trip Report, Madison County Lake

I fished Madison County Lake this morning. I started out fishing single pole on brush piles, but didn't find any fish. I changed over to Spider Rigging and found fish in water from 12 to 25 feet deep suspended 10 to 12 feet down. I kept a limit and returned a limit plus. Best bait was a 1/16oz, White Marabou jig. The water was clear with visibility of about three feet and 80 degrees. The lake is about three to four feet low.

How many rods are you using to spider rig? I would guess 4 or 6 would be all you could manage in a kayak.

    SeaRay,

    I'm running 6 rods.

Your right too, rods, fishfinder/GPS and paddling. Getting a fish on two rods simultaneously and trying to work the net can be a bit crazy, LOL.

Nice Job. Still waiting to see how you have this kayak rigged out. I paddled a 12' Native Ultimate at Fall Creek Falls TN this morning it is in their rental fleet. Good paddling kayak and has the option of moving the seat to balance the load and change the tracking. The Native is now on my list of sit ins that would work good in my small fleet.

It's a great little lake and loaded with Crappie. Sometimes I hook a huge White Crappie that I put back, but mostly small Black Crappie in the 9" to 11" range. I can only fish it when the wind is going to be 8 MPH or less from the north or south though, it can get rough being channeled down the valley.

Nice catch, I'm interested in seeing your kayak set up as well!
