Be sure to check shallow wood in 8 to 12 ft water. Black crappies stay shallow all year. Bobber and a small jig will fill up the boat when you find them. Check over tops of weed ends too. Watched a video last week with them slamming big black slabs fishing that way. Think it was Krappie Kings video. Check you tube. It's a very good watch.

Don't know where your heading to but the crappies have been great on Rainy Lake all summer ...the only time I fish shallow is during the spawn. ..I like 25 ft of water....in july i fish about 10 to 15 down in 25 ft...but now the cool temps at night are starting to push them to the bottom

Have fun. I was in Canada two weeks ago and spent my time catching Northern and Smallies. I can catch Crappie all day long here.

I did look for Crappie while I was out fishing, however one thing I noticed was a lack of wood in the water. Most of the water was either rocks, weeds, or sand. Hardly any wood. I did mark one school of Crappie while charting a lake. Never tried my luck on them. Not sure where you are going, however minnows were $5 a dozen a Sand Point Lodge, north of Crane Lake.

One thing I did notice is that on the US side my Humminbird didn't have contour lines of the lakes, Got a couple miles into Canada and the next morning my Humminbird had contour lines of the all the lakes in the area, soon as I got to the US side, the contours went away. I tried to buy a map chip for Canada before my trip, however LakeMaster doesn't sell one. I wonder if they Canadians make the lake maps free?

Yep! PONDTOON is ready for it's second Canadian adventure!! Did real well last year! lots of islands, coves and protected water to hang around in. Very comfortable, have trolling motor, fish finders, padded seats, flat floors. Much better than the stripped down Lund rental boats the rest of the crew fish out of. We switch partners everyday, we are all old and I think they look forward to their day on the PONDTOON. Luckily everyday is PONDTOON DAY for me. Hope they are biting!!

I can not believe this just happened to me. The Canadian Trip is off. I have been having problems with a recurring medical situation for about a week.Taking my meds and hoping it would go away like it usually does.Vehicle was packed just had to hook up the boat. Woke up at 6A feeling worse than ever. Figured no way I could travel two days like this and couldn't take a chance on getting up there and getting worse. See Dr. at 3P today. There is a country song that talks about "if you want to hear God laugh just tell him your plan". Hope I get squared away and maybe get a couple local trips in, that's about the best I can do. Very upsetting!!

Hey "Zinger", if those pesky walleye bother you, you can always send
'em my way. I'd be happy to take them off your hands.
Good luck out there and be safe!

Take care of yourself first the fish will be waiting on you later. Besides they may even have a chance to grow a little bigger. Hope you get better soon.
Be safe and good luck fishing
