Thread: Cats still bite on the bone

Looks like I'll be heading to the Bone in October with the kid's troop. How late in the year can you catch cats on trot lines around there? I've got catalpa worms and shrimp for bait at the moment...liver and worms do well...just wanted to know if they're very catchable that time of year. I've always considered them more of a spring/summer fish, but I'd like to catch enough for a group meal while we're camping.

Fishnut --- I made a post last night thats missing -- Cats are still doing good Except on the dark of the Moon .. We have seen hoop nets and Slant traps out of the channel edge and we have caught them on Jigs with Nibblets -- or Minnows Our best Trot Line bait is Shad. Yo-Yos can be more effective and the most fun for the Scouts. I could let you borrow some -- and help you put out the lines and Yo-Yos Because you will have your hands full

Thanks for the offer, but I'm not taking all those kids out. Lol. With the draw down, they probably won't be fishing from the pier, but I figured if I could catch enough fish on lines, we could cook some. Probably just me going out on this trip. Kids are supposed to hike, go geo caching, etc. I'll know more about it as we get closer so I may pick your brain a little about what's biting a little later. The gatherings are the only time I've ever fished that lake.

WOW !!!! Total surprise G --- Now I wished I had really said D'Arbonne because the lake is such a good place to hang a Hook

We did take Bros best friend sat morning for a few hours and fished till noon. we only managed 10 fish and they were all bigger in size. The lack of things in the stomachs of what we catch, looks like they are starved. A few Crappie have partly digested shad but bream are always empty. what we find in Cats is what we give them. one time there were Tiny mussel shells in a shell cracker on the bed..... Some time even the gut line is empty. It is no wonder they hit it so hard they break the Pole, They are starving.
