    Default So long to Eggners Ferry Bridge

    Got to see the blast that took down some of the remaining concrete piers today from south of the bridge. I ran across this video on the Explore KY lake site;

    We watched the Delta Mariner go down KY Lake last weekend. Luckily it didn't knock anything down this trip.

    Great post Dux. I can remember as a kid begging my dad to take me under the bridge. I was so amazed at the size and how high it looked to me at that time. He'd make several trips a day that way just for me to see it. Little did I know, I'd be taking my kids to see it. Truly has served all of us well. Thanks for the memories.
    If people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles.:rolleyes:

    Sure would be neat if there were some video of them blasting the concrete piers. From the construction cam it looks like the pier that partially blocked the area just south of the new bridge arch is gone, and the one on the other side of the arch has been knocked down to almost water level. Looks like they're drilling holes in it so I'm sure it's the next one to go.

    When we went under the bridge about an hour prior to the scheduled blast they were drilling the top of the pier in the center of the channel. As we fished about 2 miles south, we watched traffic continue on the bridge well past the scheduled time. All of a sudden there was a plume of water about the height of the new bridge, then a cloud of grey dust, then a muffled sound no louder than a lab retriever fart. It was pretty tame compared to the blasts that took down the main spans. I am yet to find any video of Tuesday's blast.

    Got to give kudos to the contractors. Two hours later they already had cranes picking up the pieces of the blasted pier. When it comes to the work that has been done on the old and new bridges the last several years, I'll proudly say we taxpayers got our money's worth.
