    Default Ky lake fisherman

I fish around the Danville area .. I was trolling yesterday and the whole bay I was in had all kinds of surface activey going on I could see tail fins but when get too close they would swirl and be gone before I could see what they were.... Also when I would bump my trolling motor up on 10 the whole area within 50 yards of my boat fish would swirl on the surface then be gone within seconds .. Anyone know what kind of fish these are its not the first time I have seen this .. I am thinking it may have been those Asian carp but never could get close enough to make a ID on them

Bighead carp. Silvers would have jumped at noise or starting trolling motor.

Anybody who wants to dismiss Asian carp as not being a serious threat to sportfishing is either naive or stupid. F&W types included.

Bighead were feeding in front of our dock yesterday. Looked like some pond grown catfish coming to eat their Old Roy meal.

This is part of the problem of no fish around here. I am seeing them more and more in the cow pasture here.

They've already ruined everything in west TN that feeds off the miss river. Just a matter of time.

A years or two ago I would have said ruined. Now I'm not so sure. I had a year at Reelfoot like I haven't seen in 4 or 5 and there are plenty of these carp there, but I don't know what the effect has been. At Reelfoot they are an annoyance because you have to idle some much they can land in the boat. When I switch over to catfishing the river, which is FULL FULL FULL, and run on plane they jump 50 yards behind the boat. I've had some big ones in the boat, but always when idle, like this 42lb'r from reelfoot...

It's not that they jump in the boat. They eat what shad eat. Less food for shad is less shad for crappie
